Business Finland has approved a €60 million investment grant for P2X Solutions' renewable hydrogen and synthetic methanol production plant in Joensuu, Finland, marking progress towards a final investment decision slated for this year. The plant, planned with a 40MW capacity, will be situated in Joensuu's Iiksenvaara industrial area and aims to leverage biogenic CO2 from a nearby biopower plant to create e-methanol. Targeting the maritime and aviation sectors as primary consumers, P2X Solutions' CEO, Herkko Plit, expressed optimism about advancing the European and Finnish synthetic fuels market. Being listed in the EU's Important Projects of Common European Interest elevates the project's strategic significance, supported by an investment grant facilitated by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The collaboration with Savon Voima for waste heat utilization in the district heating network underlines the project's commitment to circular economy principles and local energy optimization.
