A joint-venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Groupe, along with Austria's leading electricity company VERBUND, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Tunisia to study the implementation of the 'H2 Notos' green hydrogen project. This project aims to produce 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually in its initial phase, with plans to scale up to one million tons per year in South Tunisia. The project will utilize onshore wind and solar projects powered by desalinated sea water for electrolysis. It is designed to access the European market through the 'SoutH2 Corridor', a hydrogen pipeline project connecting North Africa to Italy, Austria, and Germany, expected to be operational around 2030. TE H2 and VERBUND will lead the project's development, financing, construction, and operation, ensuring a seamless transition from green electricity to green hydrogen production. VERBUND, with its Mission V program, is actively driving the energy transition in Austria by focusing on strengthening the home market, expanding renewable energies in Europe, and becoming a key player in the European hydrogen market by 2030.
