JCB has successfully overcome major challenges in the development of the world's first hydrogen combustion engine for commercial use in machines. After investing £100 million and three years of dedicated work by a team of 150 engineers, the company has secured landmark rulings from licensing authorities, allowing its hydrogen engine to be sold across Europe. This achievement makes JCB the first construction equipment company to introduce a fully functional combustion engine fueled by hydrogen. Lord Bamford, JCB chairman, expressed his excitement over the certification received from 11 European countries, emphasizing the positive implications for the future of hydrogen combustion technology. The Vehicle Authority RDW in the Netherlands was the first to issue official certification for the engine's sale, with other European countries quickly following suit.
