LIFTE H2 Delivers Hydrogen Refueling Station in Germany for Clean Energy Infrastructure Advancement
Key Ideas
  • LIFTE H2, a part of px Group, successfully installed a hydrogen refueling station at OGE's KruH2 pilot site in Germany, showcasing a commitment to clean energy solutions.
  • The installation includes advanced features like buffer storage, pre-compressor, and high-pressure dispenser, catering to efficient refueling of light-duty hydrogen vehicles.
  • The project utilized a custom-built hydrogen solution powered by a PEM electrolyser fueled by renewable energy from nearby wind farms, highlighting local zero-emission hydrogen production.
  • The initiative not only supports OGE's internal hydrogen-powered fleet but also contributes to the development of hydrogen infrastructure, promoting sustainable energy practices in Germany.
LIFTE H2, a subsidiary of the energy infrastructure and operations firm px Group, has reached a significant milestone in Germany by completing the installation of a hydrogen refueling station at Open Grid Europe's KruH2 pilot site in Krummhörn, near Emden. The project, awarded in 2023, involved the design, installation, and commissioning of a tailored hydrogen solution to facilitate refueling for OGE's hydrogen-powered vehicles. The station is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including buffer storage, a pre-compressor, and two hydrogen storage tanks, demonstrating the technical prowess of LIFTE H2 and px Group's dedication to scalable, low-carbon energy solutions. This development marks a crucial step in advancing Germany's clean energy infrastructure. The high-pressure hydrogen dispenser at the facility enables efficient refueling at 700 bar for various light-duty hydrogen vehicles. Additionally, the station boasts a dual compressor system for enhanced reliability, a 300-bar buffer storage tank for consistent supply, and two large storage tanks offering ample capacity. The hydrogen produced on-site is generated through a Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser powered by renewable energy sourced from nearby wind farms. By utilizing otherwise curtailed wind power, the site ensures that hydrogen production is both local and zero-emission, aligning with principles of sustainability. Paul Karzel, Managing Director of LIFTE H2 GmbH, emphasized the facility's role in promoting hydrogen infrastructure and supporting OGE's transition to renewable energy sources. This initiative not only serves OGE's fleet but also contributes to the broader development of hydrogen infrastructure, fostering sustainable energy practices in Germany.
