The Department of Energy in the Philippines has garnered significant international attention as several companies from Australia, Europe, and North America express interest in bidding for native hydrogen exploration in the country. Energy Undersecretary Alessandro Sales noted the strong interest during roadshows promoting the hydrogen blocks put up for bidding. This initiative by the DOE is unique as it focuses solely on hydrogen exploration. The bidding includes two predetermined areas in Zambales and Pangasinan, covering substantial hectares. The approach of producing naturally occurring hydrogen in the Philippines distinguishes it from countries like Japan and China, which use electrolysis.
