H2 Energy Europe, specialized in developing hydrogen ecosystems, and Ontras Gastransport GmbH, a pipeline operator in Germany, have inked an agreement to explore the transport of green hydrogen between Denmark and Germany. The focus is on linking a future 1 GW hydrogen power plant in Esbjerg, Denmark, to major German industrial areas such as Salzgitter, Berlin, and Leipzig-Halle. By utilizing existing and planned infrastructures like Germany's central hydrogen network and the Green Octopus Central Germany pipeline, the aim is to efficiently transport hydrogen from Esbjerg to meet Germany's increasing hydrogen demand projected to reach between 95 and 130 TWh annually by 2030. The agreement includes defining technical and commercial requirements before establishing a long-term capacity contract to integrate hydrogen volumes from Esbjerg into the German gas grid. This initiative aligns with Germany's strategy to diversify energy sources and secure supply. Additionally, the collaboration symbolizes the gas industry's shift towards supporting cleaner energy forms, highlighting the potential for similar partnerships to foster the integration of a hydrogen market in Europe.
