Provaris Energy Ltd Announces Cooperation for Hydrogen Offtake and Supply to Germany
Key Ideas
  • Provaris Energy Ltd partners with Norwegian Hydrogen AS and Uniper to develop hydrogen supply chains from Norway to northwest Europe, including Germany.
  • The partnership aims to establish a 10-year hydrogen supply agreement using Provaris' H2Neo carriers and H2Leo storage barges for transporting green hydrogen.
  • Focus is on developing RFNBO-compliant hydrogen sites in Nordics, particularly Norway and Finland, with the FjordH2 Project in the Alesund region being a notable feasibility study.
  • The collaboration contributes to the future development of Germany's hydrogen network by linking regional supply locations in the Nordic Region to northwest European ports.
Provaris Energy Ltd has initiated a collaborative effort with Norwegian Hydrogen AS and strategic partner Uniper to facilitate hydrogen offtake and supply to Germany. This partnership, established through a tri-party Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), aims to enhance cooperation in developing hydrogen supply chains from Norway and other potential Nordic sites to import locations in northwest Europe. The focus is on producing green hydrogen through electrolysis using low greenhouse gas electricity sources, in compliance with the RFNBO Delegated Act. This green hydrogen will be transported using Provaris' H2Neo carriers and H2Leo storage barges. The parties are working towards finalizing a hydrogen sales and purchase agreement term sheet by the current December 2024 quarter, with a targeted 10-year contract to support the long-term charter for Provaris' proprietary carriers and storage barges. Efforts are underway to identify suitable sites for RFNBO-compliant hydrogen production in the Nordics, with specific attention to Norway and Finland. One of the highlighted feasibility studies is the FjordH2 Project in the Alesund region, Norway. This collaboration not only focuses on establishing a stable hydrogen supply but also contributes to the future development of Germany's core hydrogen network by connecting regional supply locations in the Nordic Region to planned hydrogen import ports in northwest Europe.
