Provaris Energy Partners for Green Hydrogen Supply Chain to Germany
Key Ideas
  • Provaris Energy collaborates with Norwegian Hydrogen and Uniper to establish hydrogen supply chains to northwest Europe, emphasizing green hydrogen production.
  • Efforts are underway to finalize a 10-year hydrogen supply agreement by December 2024, focusing on RFNBO-compliant hydrogen production sites in the Nordics.
  • Provaris' compressed hydrogen technology proves to be energy-efficient and cost-effective, offering advantages over ammonia conversion, reducing energy consumption and enabling higher delivery volumes.
  • The compression-based shipping method is shown to be 20% cheaper than ammonia-based transport, costing around €6 per kilogram.
Provaris Energy Ltd, in collaboration with Norwegian Hydrogen AS and Uniper, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aiming to establish hydrogen supply chains from Norway and other Nordic locations to northwest Europe, with a focus on green hydrogen production. The partnership is set to develop these supply chains, utilizing Provaris' H2 Neo carriers and H2 Leo storage barges for transportation. The venture is working towards finalizing a hydrogen sales and purchase agreement by December 2024, with a proposed 10-year contract duration. Provaris and Norwegian Hydrogen are actively scouting potential sites in the Nordics for RFNBO-compliant hydrogen production, including the FjordH2 Project in Norway. A recent concept design study conducted by Provaris confirmed the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their compressed hydrogen technology. The study highlighted the benefits of compression over ammonia conversion, showcasing reduced energy consumption and costs, ultimately enabling higher hydrogen delivery capacities. Notably, the compression-based shipping method is outlined to be approximately €6 per kilogram, indicating a 20% cost saving compared to ammonia-based transport. This development signifies a significant step towards advancing green hydrogen supply chains and promoting sustainable energy practices in Europe.
