Saudi Arabia and Germany recently signed a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) named the 'Saudi-German Green Hydrogen Bridge' to facilitate the production and export of green hydrogen and green ammonia from Saudi Arabia to Europe. The agreement, signed in Riyadh during a meeting between Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and German Finance Minister Jörg Kukies, signifies a milestone in energy cooperation between the two countries. The primary focus of the discussions was on clean hydrogen development, with ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia and SEVI from Germany collaborating on projects to export 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to Europe by 2030. ACWA Power will handle the production assets while SEVI will be a co-investor and key offtaker to ensure the supply of green hydrogen to customers in Germany and beyond. This initiative is part of Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to establish itself as a global leader in green hydrogen production and export. The agreement also reflects the commitment of both nations to advancing sustainable energy solutions and falls under the Saudi-German Energy Dialogue framework aimed at enhancing partnerships in renewable energy and clean hydrogen technologies.
