Snam, a leading European natural gas operator, and Acwa Power, a Saudi company specializing in energy transition, have entered a memorandum of understanding to develop a green hydrogen supply chain between Saudi Arabia and Europe. The project will focus on the SoutH2 Corridor, a major infrastructure initiative spanning 3,300 km to connect Italy, Austria, and Germany, facilitating the transportation of green energy to Europe. Snam's objective is to establish a pan-European multi-molecule infrastructure to enhance energy security and support the transition towards Net Zero emissions. Acwa Power, known for its expertise in hydrogen and green ammonia production, will contribute to the project by leveraging its experience and capabilities. The partnership between Snam and Acwa Power aims to identify opportunities for collaboration and joint investments to create an international supply chain for green hydrogen. This collaboration is crucial for meeting the EU's ambitious decarbonisation targets, with hydrogen playing a significant role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. In addition to the SoutH2 Corridor, the project includes plans for developing an ammonia import terminal in Italy. This terminal will be essential for transporting green hydrogen through the corridor, ensuring a reliable and affordable supply of green energy to Europe.
