The green hydrogen market is gaining momentum in Europe, particularly in Ukraine, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent push to reduce dependence on Russian gas. Plans are underway to establish a domestic green hydrogen industry in Ukraine by utilizing its solar and wind energy for electrolysis systems. The Ukraine-EU Hydrogen Corridor is being formalized with the participation of key stakeholders to facilitate the export of green hydrogen to Europe. US-based investors, including Breakthrough Energy and McKinsey & Company, are actively supporting this initiative. Additionally, financial firms like BlackRock and JP Morgan are planning substantial funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine. Water electrolysis and biomass are seen as viable sources for green hydrogen production. The US, on the other hand, is facing setbacks in its green hydrogen industry due to policy changes, leaving investors uncertain about the future of projects like the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs program. Meanwhile, other countries like Canada and Oman are also making strides in exporting green hydrogen to Europe. The global shift towards sustainable energy sources is evident, with Ukraine strategically positioning itself in the emerging green hydrogen market.
