TotalEnergies SE and Air Liquide SA have announced a €600 million joint venture to produce green hydrogen for Total's refinery in the Netherlands and its petrochemical plant in Belgium. The initiative includes the construction of a 250-megawatt electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery, powered by wind energy, and another electrolyzer near Rotterdam that will supply Total's Antwerp facility. These projects aim to significantly reduce emissions, with an estimated annual decrease of up to 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide. Total's partnership with Air Liquide reflects the company's dedication to utilizing low-carbon hydrogen in its refining processes, aligning with its goal to decarbonize hydrogen consumption across its European operations by 2030. The collaboration also highlights Total's proactive approach towards sustainability and emission reduction. Air Liquide's involvement, leveraging its hydrogen pipeline infrastructure, extends the clean power supply to additional Dutch and Belgian customers, contributing to the broader adoption of green hydrogen in the region. The projects are expected to commence operations in the coming years, pending a final investment decision, and represent a combined investment exceeding €1 billion.
