TotalEnergies SE has purchased a 50% stake in RWE AG's project to construct an offshore wind farm in Dutch waters with the objective of producing green hydrogen for the company's European refineries. This decision is aligned with TotalEnergies' goal to eliminate 500,000 tons of 'gray' hydrogen used in its plants by 2030, contributing to a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from its oil and gas operations between 2015 and 2030. The agreement entails TotalEnergies acquiring half of the 795-megawatt OranjeWind project in the North Sea, which will power electrolizers to generate 40,000 tons per year of green hydrogen from renewable energy sources.
