In a significant move towards combatting climate change and enhancing energy security, the Bharat ZET Policy Advisory document was unveiled in New Delhi, India. The event, held at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe, witnessed the launch of this strategic document aimed at revolutionizing India's transportation sector with the adoption of Zero Emission Trucks (ZET). The launch event saw the participation of esteemed individuals such as Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India, who stressed the pivotal role of ZETs in achieving decarbonization and energy security objectives. The key stakeholders present emphasized the need for technical expertise and systematic policy interventions to create an enabling ecosystem for ZET adoption in the country. The advisory document, conceived as a dynamic framework, encompasses 30 policy interventions categorized into five key areas: incentives, regulations, infrastructure, business, financing, and stakeholder-centric initiatives. Each intervention is meticulously designed to accelerate ZET adoption and is backed by a detailed methodology of policy formulation. Moreover, the document sets a bold target of achieving 100% ZET sales penetration by 2050 in line with India's ambitious Net Zero 2070 goal. This move towards electrification of trucks is seen as essential for reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainability in the transportation sector. The development of the Bharat ZET Policy Advisory document was overseen by a dedicated Policy Advisory Panel (PAP) comprising a diverse group of experts from government agencies, academic institutions, and industry bodies. Through extensive stakeholder consultations and detailed analyses, the recommendations within the document aim to steer India towards a greener and more sustainable future in the realm of transportation.
