AM Green has awarded an electrolyser order to John Cockerill Hydrogen for a green ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to produce 1.3 GW of green ammonia using advanced pressurized alkaline electrolysers powered by renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and pumped hydro storage. Scheduled to start production in the second half of 2026, the project will advance rapidly with a 640 MW first phase, part of a strategic partnership between AM Green and John Cockerill to build a green hydrogen ecosystem in India. The collaboration includes establishing India's largest electrolyser manufacturing facility in Kakinada to produce 2 GW annually, aligning with India's green hydrogen production goals. By 2030, AM Green targets a production of five million tons per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia, supporting net-zero targets for India and OECD markets. The project also aims to generate one MTPA of green hydrogen, a significant contribution to Europe's green hydrogen import target and India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. The CertifHy certification confirms compliance with EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) standards, ensuring the production of green ammonia with renewable energy sources. This achievement allows AM Green to secure offtake agreements for various green hydrogen applications. François Michel, CEO of John Cockerill, expressed satisfaction in contributing to India's sustainable future through large-scale technology solutions for decarbonization, especially focusing on green hydrogen. The collaboration between AM Green and John Cockerill marks a pioneering step towards fulfilling India's green vision.
