Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, have announced a 50:50 joint venture to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen projects across India. This strategic partnership is geared towards supporting India's energy transition and development goals. The collaboration will focus on various aspects, including the production, operation, and sale of renewable energy and green hydrogen, as well as green ammonia production, emissions reduction for port operations, and other green fuel technologies. Sembcorp, with its significant renewable assets in India, aims to facilitate large-scale, cost-effective green hydrogen production. BPCL, being a major player in the petroleum sector, will bring its expertise to the partnership. The joint venture aspires to contribute to decarbonization efforts and support India's climate goals. BPCL has set ambitious targets, planning to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 in Scope 1 and 2, and establish a strong renewable energy portfolio.
