Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Private Limited (SGHIPL) have announced a joint venture to explore renewable energy and green hydrogen projects across India. The strategic partnership aims to support India's energy transition and development goals by considering projects in green ammonia production, emissions reduction for port operations, and other emerging green fuel technologies. The collaboration between BPCL and Sembcorp will leverage Sembcorp's renewables experience and BPCL's expertise in the petroleum sector to develop best-in-class renewable energy and green hydrogen solutions.
Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, Shri G Krishnakumar, highlighted the significance of this partnership in achieving a sustainable future and supporting India's ambitious climate goals. The joint venture targets a renewable energy portfolio of 10 GW and aims for net-zero emissions by 2040 in Scope 1 and 2. Sembcorp's President & CEO, Vipul Tuli, expressed the commitment to delivering low-carbon solutions and decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors through the collaboration.
Sembcorp, with 6GW of renewables assets in India, is well-equipped to facilitate large-scale green hydrogen production. On the other hand, BPCL is actively integrating sustainability into its strategy, with plans to offer electric vehicle charging stations at its fuel stations and become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040.
