Empowering India's Green Hydrogen Revolution with Gigawatt-Scale Electrolysers
Key Ideas
  • Horizon Fuel Cell's subsidiary, HET Hydrogen, is partnering with Indify Fuel Cell to establish gigawatt-scale electrolyser assembly facilities, aligning with India's Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • The collaboration aims to produce competitive electrolysers with lower operating costs, supporting India's ambition to lead globally in hydrogen adoption across various sectors.
  • Indify plans to have a one megawatt HET electrolyser operational by March 2025, emphasizing local technical validation and a commitment to reducing the levelized cost of green hydrogen.
  • Initiatives in India focus on boosting hydrogen production for applications like green steel, fertilizers, chemicals, and sustainable fuels to drive the country's decarbonized economy.
Horizon Fuel Cell's subsidiary, HET Hydrogen Pte Ltd, is teaming up with Indify Fuel Cell Private Ltd. to establish a joint venture focused on producing gigawatt-scale electrolysers in India. This partnership is in alignment with the government's 'Green Hydrogen Mission,' emphasizing green hydrogen's importance in sustainable industry practices, transportation decarbonization, and exploring new export opportunities. The initial phase of the project, anticipated to start operation in early 2026, will aim to assemble a minimum of 100 megawatts per year. HET has a track record of successfully commercializing megawatt-scale Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers and is now gearing up to introduce megawatt-scale Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolysers. These new electrolysers are designed to offer competitive capital costs similar to traditional alkaline systems while significantly reducing operating expenses compared to advanced PEM systems. The joint venture will evaluate potential manufacturing sites in India and disclose the selected location soon. Indify plans to showcase its one megawatt HET electrolyser in India by March 2025 for customer demonstrations and local technical validation, with a focus on enhancing Indian content in future systems to lower the levelized cost of green hydrogen. India has launched various initiatives to enhance hydrogen production and promote applications like green steel, fertilizers, chemicals, and sustainable fuels. These efforts aim to capitalize on India's cost-effective green hydrogen production to support a future decarbonized economy.
