ENEOS Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to conduct a joint study on the social implementation of hydrogen and decarbonized fuels. This collaboration expands their existing feasibility study concerning sustainable aviation fuel. ENEOS, known for operating hydrogen stations for fuel cell vehicles (FCV) in Japan, is dedicated to establishing a CO2-free hydrogen supply chain within the country, leveraging support from Japanese government initiatives like the Green Innovation Fund Projects. On the other hand, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is actively engaged in developing and promoting next-generation energy sources such as hydrogen to facilitate the Energy Transformation (EX) and achieve a carbon-neutral society. Through the MOU, the two companies will focus on studying the development of a hydrogen supply chain utilizing Methylcyclohexane (MCH). This study includes aspects like CO2-free hydrogen supply, international demand creation, and the integration of hydrogen in the mobility sector, particularly in relation to commercial FCVs. Furthermore, ENEOS and Mitsubishi Corporation plan to collaborate on advancing synthetic fuels derived from CO2-free hydrogen. Both companies have identified climate change as a significant business challenge and are taking proactive steps to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Their joint efforts aim to contribute to the establishment of supply chains for next-generation energy sources and to stimulate demand for hydrogen, thereby supporting the transition towards a carbon-neutral and recycling-oriented society.
