GAIL (India) Ltd, the leading natural gas supplier in India, has decided to speed up its efforts to achieve net zero emissions by advancing the target to 2035, five years earlier than initially planned. The company is committed to adopting a range of green initiatives like electrification, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, compressed biogas, green hydrogen, and afforestation to reach its sustainability objectives. Sandeep Kumar Gupta, the chairman and managing director of GAIL, emphasized the importance of natural gas as a cleaner fuel in reducing emissions across industries. Additionally, GAIL has set up a green hydrogen plant in Madhya Pradesh to produce hydrogen for its processes and retail customers. Alongside, the company is investing in solar power facilities at its Vijaipur plant to source renewable energy. This move by GAIL is part of the larger trend among India's public sector energy companies to set ambitious net zero emissions goals in alignment with the country's target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070. The positive response from the market was evident with GAIL's shares closing higher on the stock exchange.
