Thirteen leading industrial clusters from various countries have joined the World Economic Forum's Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative, bringing the total to 33 clusters across 16 countries and five continents. These clusters aim to reduce 832 million tonnes of CO2e emissions and contribute $492 billion to global GDP while supporting 4.3 million jobs. The initiative highlights the importance of industrial clusters in deploying clean-energy solutions at scale, with a focus on innovative, collaborative business models and digital technologies. By connecting clusters across regions and industries, the initiative aims to expedite the energy transition and create a more resilient, sustainable global economy. The addition of new clusters from countries like India, Thailand, and Australia underscores the initiative's commitment to the Asia-Pacific region. The new report, produced with Accenture and EPRI, emphasizes the role of strategic industrial ecosystems, especially those around port facilities, in accelerating clean energy production, distribution, and consumption. It identifies key solution areas such as promoting governance, scaling clean energy initiatives, and strengthening cross-cluster collaboration. The Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative aims to drive economic growth, create jobs, and reduce CO2e emissions by fostering collaboration and a shared vision among co-located companies and public institutions.
