The state government of Himachal Pradesh in India is making significant strides in promoting renewable energy and green initiatives to combat climate change. One of the key projects is the upcoming Mega Solar Park in Spiti, Lahaul-Spiti, with a capacity of 1,000 MW of hybrid solar and wind energy. Additionally, the completion of the 32 MW Pekhubela Solar Power Project in Una district is expected to contribute towards reducing carbon emissions by 2,532 tonnes annually. The government has set ambitious targets, including the installation of 500 MW of solar power and transitioning the transportation sector to electric vehicles. The Himachal Road Transport Corp is already in the process of replacing fossil fuel buses with electric ones, with plans to procure 2,000 more electric buses. Furthermore, the state is developing green corridors and has started work on establishing a green hydrogen-based mobility station in Chamba, which is projected to produce 20 kg of green hydrogen daily by August 2025. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu is actively seeking central assistance to harness the state's natural resources for sustainable energy practices. These green initiatives are seen as crucial steps in mitigating the effects of global warming and promoting a greener and cleaner future for Himachal Pradesh.
