North India's first green hydrogen plant has been inaugurated in Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions. The 1 megawatt facility in Dabhota, Nalagarh Tehsil, established through a collaboration between Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and Oil India Limited, aims to propel the state towards becoming India's first green energy state by March 2026. The project, with a budget of Rs 9.04 crore, will utilize an alkaline electrolysis process to produce green hydrogen from renewable energy sources, supporting the state's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With a daily capacity of 423 kg of green hydrogen, sourced from underground reserves through tube wells, the facility is a testament to Himachal Pradesh's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable energy initiatives. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the importance of this project in the state's renewable energy ambitions and directed swift completion of construction within a year. This initiative, stemming from a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023, is part of broader renewable energy endeavors that include solar energy, geothermal energy, and compressed biogas. The launch of the green hydrogen plant not only signifies a technological advancement in the state but also aligns with Himachal Pradesh's comprehensive approach towards green energy development, such as aiming for a 500 MW solar energy target.
