Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to establish a dedicated hydrogen innovation centre in Chennai, India. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M. K. Stalin, recently conducted a virtual ground-breaking ceremony for this center at the Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2024. The centre, set to be fully operational by 2026, is a strategic partnership between HMIL, IIT Madras, and the State Government of Tamil Nadu. Spanning 65,000 sq. ft. within the IIT Madras Thaiyur campus, the facility will focus on advancing hydrogen as a sustainable source of propulsion for mass-mobility solutions. Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, CMO of HMIL, highlighted the investment towards construction and the center's role in fostering innovation in hydrogen technology. HMIL's initiative also aims to strengthen Tamil Nadu as an automotive innovation hub, contributing to reducing the state's carbon footprint and developing a skilled workforce for the emerging hydrogen economy.
