Hyundai Motor India Limited is set to establish a cutting-edge hydrogen innovation centre within the IIT Madras campus in Chennai, as announced during the Tamil Nadu Investors Conclave 2024. The facility, expected to be fully operational by 2026, will play a crucial role in advancing the hydrogen ecosystem in India. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities such as electrolyzer test rigs, fuel cell fabrication lines, and hydrogen refueling stations, the centre aims to promote green hydrogen technologies and fuel cell research. The virtual Ground Breaking ceremony, led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, marked the beginning of this ambitious project, which received support from various government officials and industry leaders. Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, HMIL's Chief Manufacturing Officer, expressed the company's commitment to sustainable practices and the transition towards alternate fuels. Prof V Kamakoti from IIT Madras highlighted the partnership's significance in driving innovation and fostering a conducive environment for hydrogen technology advancements. The collaboration between Hyundai, IIT Madras, and Guidance Tamil Nadu is geared towards accelerating the development and adoption of hydrogen technologies not only in Tamil Nadu but throughout the nation.
