IIT Bombay & HSBC India's Green Hydrogen Program: Advancing Innovation for a Sustainable Future
Key Ideas
  • Six innovative projects focusing on green hydrogen production, storage, and utilization have been shortlisted for incubation under the IIT Bombay and HSBC India Green Hydrogen program.
  • These projects address key challenges in green hydrogen technology, such as developing indigenous hydrogen storage systems and sustainable hydrogen generators to improve air quality.
  • The collaboration aims to make green hydrogen production more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable to support India's energy independence and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • The program envisions building a strong green hydrogen economy to position green hydrogen as a strategic alternative fuel with applications across industries for a sustainable energy landscape.
The IIT Bombay and HSBC India Green Hydrogen program has selected six innovative projects from top educational institutions in India for incubation. These projects focus on advancing green hydrogen technology, including production, storage, and utilization. The selection process involved a stringent evaluation by a Steering committee comprising industry experts and senior faculty from IIT Bombay. The chosen projects aim to address crucial challenges in green hydrogen, such as developing indigenous hydrogen storage systems to reduce carbon emissions from commercial vehicles and creating cost-effective hydrogen generators to improve air quality, a pressing issue in Indian metros. These solutions will be nurtured and refined at the IIT incubation center to achieve commercial readiness. The collaboration between IIT Bombay and HSBC India aims to make green hydrogen production more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable, aligning with India's energy independence goals and the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The partnership underscores a commitment to supporting the government's vision for a green hydrogen economy and a sustainable energy landscape. The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to develop a green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes per year by 2030, highlighting the potential of green hydrogen as a future fuel alternative.
