The Indian government has launched five pilot projects as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission to deploy hydrogen-based vehicles for trials. These projects will see a total of 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles, including buses and trucks, running on 10 different routes across the country. Major companies like TATA Motors, Reliance Industries, and NTPC have been selected to participate in these projects. The objective is to develop commercially viable technologies for utilizing hydrogen as fuel in buses and trucks, along with supporting infrastructure like hydrogen refuelling stations. The total financial support for the selected projects amounts to around Rs 208 crore from the Centre, with an expected completion timeline of 18-24 months. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023, aims to lead significant decarbonization of the economy, reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports, and establish India as a leader in green hydrogen technology. The mission will also contribute to India's self-reliance through clean energy and inspire the global Clean Energy Transition.
