Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has set an ambitious target to become a $1 trillion company by 2047. To achieve this goal, IOCL is expanding beyond traditional oil refining and fuel marketing sectors into clean energy sources such as green hydrogen and electric vehicle (EV) charging. Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya highlighted the company's focus on a balanced portfolio that includes investments in fossil fuels alongside new energy avenues to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2046. IOCL plans to increase its oil refining capacity, invest in petrochemical units for high-value chemical production, and emphasize gas, biofuels, and clean mobility initiatives. By centralizing all green projects, IOCL aims to optimize resources, drive innovation, and implement cutting-edge solutions efficiently. The company has forged partnerships with leading tech firms like Phinergy and Panasonic Energy to develop advanced battery technologies including aluminum-air and lithium-ion batteries. Moreover, a joint venture with Sun Mobility Pte Ltd aims to establish a significant battery swapping network in India by 2030. In the realm of compressed bioGas (CBG), IOCL plans to build thirty CBG plants nationwide in the near future. Regarding hydrogen, IOCL aims to transition half of its current hydrogen usage to green hydrogen by 2030, showcasing its commitment to sustainable energy practices and environmental stewardship.
