The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers held its 64th annual session in New Delhi, where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted India's potential in hydrogen production. Gadkari stressed the automotive sector's significant role in the Indian economy, contributing 6.8 percent to the GDP. He addressed the nation's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, with a focus on sustainable mobility and alternative fuels like methanol, LNG, and CNG to reduce dependency on conventional fuels. Gadkari underlined the need to explore innovative alternatives like green hydrogen, citing its importance for India's future. He discussed technological advancements and infrastructure development for green hydrogen production, noting India's leading position in electrolyzer manufacturing globally. Moreover, Gadkari proposed strategies to reduce hydrogen production costs, such as producing biohydrogen from waste segregation. He set an ambitious target of USD 1 per kg for hydrogen production to capture the global market. The minister also announced a significant investment in new technology for a crash testing facility to strengthen India's position in sustainable energy solutions. With India's dominance in the automotive market, the focus on green energy solutions aims to solidify its leadership in sustainable mobility and reduce pollution levels.
