On 8th January 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first Green Hydrogen Hub Project in Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in the country's renewable energy journey. The Hub, set up by NTPC Green Energy Limited, aims to be the largest integrated green hydrogen production facility in India, with a capacity to produce 1500 tonnes per day of Green Hydrogen and 7500 tonnes per day of Green Hydrogen derivatives like Green Methanol, Green Urea, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. This ambitious project requires a total investment of approximately Rs 1,85,000 crore and will also involve establishing 20 gigawatts of renewable energy capacities. By aligning with the National Green Hydrogen Mission targets, the Hub aims to produce 5 MMT per annum of Green Hydrogen and add 125 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. Green hydrogen, a clean energy source produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy, holds promise for a sustainable future. Prime Minister Modi's visit also included laying the foundation stones for other key projects like a Bulk Drug Park at Nakkapalli, Krishnapatnam Industrial Area (KRIS City) in Tirupati district, and the proposed South Coast Railway Headquarters in Visakhapatnam. These initiatives are expected to drive economic growth, promote industrial development, and enhance infrastructure in the region, signaling a positive outlook for the state of Andhra Pradesh.
