India's Largest Electrolyser Order Placed for Green Ammonia Facility in Kakinada
Key Ideas
  • AM Green, part of Greenko Group, orders 1.3 GW of advanced pressurised alkaline electrolysers from John Cockerill Hydrogen for a green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The electrolyser order will be supplied in two phases of 640 MW each, aiming to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia with production expected to start in the second half of 2026.
  • John Cockerill and AM Green will collaborate on developing India's largest electrolyser manufacturing plant with a 2 GW per year capacity in Kakinada to support the country's green hydrogen production target.
  • AM Green targets a 5 MTPA green ammonia capacity by 2030, contributing significantly to India's green hydrogen production goals and Europe's green hydrogen imports, with the Kakinada facility already meeting EU green ammonia requirements.
In Hyderabad, AM Green, a part of the Greenko Group, has announced the placement of India's largest electrolyser order with John Cockerill Hydrogen for its green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The order consists of 1.3 GW of advanced pressurised alkaline electrolysers, to be delivered in two phases of 640 MW each. These electrolysers are crucial for producing low-emission hydrogen through the splitting of water using renewable or nuclear electricity. The green ammonia plant in Kakinada is set to commence production in the latter half of 2026. Additionally, a collaboration between John Cockerill and AM Green will see the development of India's largest electrolyser manufacturing plant with a capacity of 2 GW per year, further supporting the National Green Hydrogen Mission. AM Green has ambitious plans, aiming for a 5 MTPA green ammonia capacity by 2030, which aligns with India's green hydrogen production targets and Europe's green hydrogen imports. The Kakinada facility has already received certification for compliance with EU green ammonia standards. Offtake agreements are also in place with key players for various green hydrogen applications.
