India's National Green Hydrogen Mission: Guidelines for Funding Testing Facilities and Infrastructure
Key Ideas
  • The Government of India has released guidelines for funding testing facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • The scheme aims to identify gaps in existing testing facilities for green hydrogen technologies, create new facilities, and upgrade existing ones to ensure safe operations.
  • With a budget of Rs. 200 Crores until 2025-26, the focus is on developing a robust quality and performance testing ecosystem in the green hydrogen sector.
  • The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023 with significant funding, aims to drive decarbonization, reduce fossil fuel dependency, and position India as a leader in green hydrogen technology.
The Government of India has introduced guidelines for the funding of testing facilities, infrastructure, and institutional support under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Scheme Guidelines, issued by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy on July 04, 2024, focus on developing standards and regulatory frameworks for the green hydrogen sector. The scheme aims to address gaps in existing testing facilities, create new ones, and upgrade the current infrastructure to ensure safe operations in the production and trade of green hydrogen. With a total budget of Rs. 200 Crores until the financial year 2025-26, the emphasis is on establishing a robust quality and performance testing ecosystem. The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) will act as the Scheme Implementation agency. The National Green Hydrogen Mission, initiated in January 2023 with substantial funding, aims to propel India towards self-reliance in clean energy. It is envisioned to lead to decarbonization, reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports, and position India as a key player in green hydrogen technology on a global scale.
