Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, met with US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffery Pyatt, on the sidelines of GasTech 2024 in Houston to review existing energy cooperation and explore ways to strengthen bilateral ties across the energy value chain. The leaders discussed how collaboration between Indian and US institutions and companies is enhancing the energy sector partnership. Minister Puri highlighted that India's energy demand is projected to double by 2050, emphasizing the need for investments in both conventional and renewable energy sources. During the GasTech event, Minister Puri inaugurated the India Pavilion, showcasing the country's energy sector capabilities and future collaboration opportunities. He noted India's journey towards energy self-sufficiency and the importance of India's proactive approach in averting a severe global energy crisis. Minister Puri also joined a ministerial panel alongside representatives from Egypt, Nigeria, Turkey, and the US to discuss navigating geopolitics in a changing global order. Minister Puri emphasized India's balanced approach, focusing on climate commitments while safeguarding national interests under PM Narendra Modi's leadership. He highlighted India's efforts to enhance domestic energy production, diversify supplies, and promote low carbon solutions like biofuels, EVs, and hydrogen. Additionally, he mentioned initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) to accelerate clean energy deployment. In a meeting with US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Minister Puri participated in the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) Ministerial to drive clean energy innovation and strengthen energy security. The partnership focuses on technical pillars including renewable energy, responsible oil and gas, and sustainable growth to accelerate clean energy transitions. The ministers welcomed progress made under the partnership and emphasized efforts to enhance clean energy manufacturing and build stable and diversified supply chains.
