India has made remarkable progress in renewable energy, adding a record 25 gigawatts (GW) in the financial year ending March 31, a 35% increase from the previous year. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy highlighted the dominance of solar power in driving this growth, with a 38% rise in annual capacity addition. The country's solar module manufacturing capacity nearly doubled to 74 GW, and the solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing capacity tripled to 25 GW. Noteworthy investments under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and initiatives like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and PM KUSUM have significantly promoted clean energy adoption, benefiting households and agriculture sectors. India also made strides in green hydrogen, allocating incentives for electrolyser manufacturing and green hydrogen production. The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) reported increased loan sanctions and disbursements, supporting clean energy projects. Minister Prahlad Joshi expressed optimism about India's position as a global renewable energy leader, crediting Prime Minister Modi's vision for a sustainable energy future. These achievements reflect India's commitment to clean energy transition and its growing influence in the renewable energy sector.
