The Rice Alliance Clean Energy Accelerator, hosted by Rice University, has announced the participants for Class 4, which includes 12 energy startups from various states and countries. These startups are focused on innovating in areas such as advanced materials, digital tech, energy efficiencies, hydrogen, and solar power. The accelerator aims to support emerging ventures that are driving decarbonization solutions and efficiency strategies to expedite the shift towards a clean energy economy. Led by Kerri Smith, the program provides startups with a rigorous curriculum to enhance their fundraising efforts and prepare them for market adoption. The startups will also benefit from expanded connections for potential pilots, partnerships, and sales. Some of the innovative startups in Class 4 include 1s1 Energy, which is developing electrolyzers for low-cost green hydrogen production, and Mitico, offering services to capture carbon dioxide emissions. Others like OceanBit are focused on ocean thermal energy technologies, while Vroom Solar provides Smart Solar Management technology. Each startup in this cohort brings a unique solution to the table, addressing various aspects of the clean energy transition. The program has a strong track record, with past ventures collectively raising more than $166 million in funding and achieving milestones such as launching pilots, securing investments, and creating employment opportunities. Additionally, many of the previous ventures have chosen to relocate to Houston, showcasing the city's growing prominence in the clean energy sector. The Class 4 accelerator program will be led by Kerri Smith and Matt Peña, supported by industry experts serving as executives-in-residence to provide tailored mentoring and facilitate strategic partnerships. The 10-week program will kick off in July with a hybrid virtual/in-person model, and startups will engage in various activities aimed at refining their business models and enhancing their market presence. The program will culminate in a Demo Day alongside the 21st Rice Alliance Energy Tech Venture Forum in September. This event will also coincide with Houston's Energy and Climate Startup Week, highlighting the city's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the energy sector.
