Kandla Port, a vital maritime gateway in India, is undergoing a monumental infrastructure upgrade with a staggering investment exceeding ₹57,000 crore. The ambitious project announced by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) aims to revolutionize the port by significantly enhancing cargo capacity and establishing a cutting-edge shipbuilding ecosystem. The centerpiece of this transformation is a mega shipbuilding complex with a budget of ₹30,000 crore sprawling over 6,000 acres. This facility is designed to construct large vessels, including Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), and is poised to produce 32 new ships annually, boosting India's maritime manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the project includes the development of a new port outside Kandla Creek and the construction of new oil jetties to increase liquid cargo handling capacity. The development plan also emphasizes the adoption of sustainable practices, particularly through the integration of green hydrogen technologies. This includes setting up India's first indigenous electrolysers for a 1-Megawatt Green Hydrogen Plant at Kandla, aligning with the Government of India's Green Hydrogen Mission.
