Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road, Transport and Highways, has urged the Indian sugar industry to consider diversification opportunities to embrace green alternatives. In a virtual address at the general meeting of the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association, Gadkari emphasized the importance of exploring options such as ethanol-diesel blending and green hydrogen production. He also spoke about the need for the adoption of ethanol and CNG pumps, as well as attracting private sector investments in the sector. Gadkari highlighted the shift away from fossil fuels towards alternative sources, mentioning technologies like flex engines, bioCNG, and bio-bitumen. Moreover, he pointed out that leading manufacturers such as Tatas and Suzuki are introducing ethanol-fueled cars, indicating a growing trend towards eco-friendly transportation. The minister also discussed the potential for exporting ethanol to neighboring countries to boost economic prospects. Additionally, Gadkari suggested exploring new industry segments like bio-bitumen and green hydrogen, signaling a broader vision for sustainable development in the sector.
