NTPC has partnered with the Indian Army to establish a Solar Hydrogen-based Microgrid at Chushul in Ladakh, a move aimed at providing sustainable energy in remote, high-altitude areas. The system, designed to generate 200 kW of power round-the-clock, utilizes green hydrogen as a storage medium to replace diesel generators in off-grid Army stations. This initiative not only aims to ensure a stable power supply in challenging terrains with severe winters but also supports India's carbon neutrality goals by significantly reducing carbon emissions. The project is set to enhance energy independence, scalability for future energy needs, and align with Ladakh's vision of being carbon-neutral. NTPC's commitment to green initiatives extends beyond the Chushul project, with recent introductions of hydrogen buses in Leh and plans to establish a hydrogen refueling station and deploy fuel cell buses for intracity routes. These efforts align with NTPC's goal of advancing renewable energy and green hydrogen adoption, with the organization targeting 60GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
