In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, a tripartite agreement was signed in Bhubaneswar, India, to launch a green hydrogen mobility project in Odisha. The agreement, signed between CRUT, NTPC, and GRIDCO, outlines the responsibilities of each entity in implementing the project over the next five years. CRUT will maintain the hydrogen-powered buses, NTPC will focus on hydrogen production, and GRIDCO will ensure the supply of renewable energy. This initiative aims to address climate change in the state and provide a permanent solution by introducing green hydrogen buses. The project, supported by the National Green Hydrogen Mission, will see the introduction of three hydrogen-powered buses with a mileage of 12 km per kg of hydrogen. Each bus, with 42 seats, can cover up to 600 km on 58 kg of fuel, reducing carbon emissions and improving public transport. NTPC will establish a hydrogen production plant at the CRUT depot in Bhubaneswar, utilizing existing plants for gas generation. The Energy department has requested land allotment for NTPC, and GRIDCO will supply 2 MW of electricity for the project. This green initiative is a significant step towards sustainable development and showcases India's commitment to renewable energy and climate-friendly transportation.
