  • CRUT will maintain hydrogen-powered buses, NTPC will focus on hydrogen production, and GRIDCO will supply renewable energy.
  • The project aims to reduce carbon emissions, improve public transport, and introduce green hydrogen buses as an alternative to diesel buses.
  • NTPC will deploy three hydrogen-powered buses with a range of up to 600 km on 58 kg of fuel, providing a sustainable transportation option in the state.
In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, a tripartite agreement was signed between CRUT, NTPC, and GRIDCO to launch a green hydrogen mobility project. CRUT will maintain hydrogen-powered buses, NTPC will focus on hydrogen production, and GRIDCO will supply renewable energy. This initiative aims to combat climate change in the state. With the support of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, pilot projects for green hydrogen in the transport sector are being implemented. ARIA has invested Rs 19.5 crore in this pilot project to reduce the use of diesel buses and introduce green hydrogen buses. NTPC will deploy three hydrogen-powered buses with a mileage of 12 km per kilogramme of hydrogen. These buses will replace diesel buses and offer sustainable public transport with 42 seats and a range of up to 600 km. NTPC will establish a hydrogen production plant at the CRUT depot in Bhubaneswar, utilizing existing plants. The state government has allocated land for this purpose and GRIDCO will supply electricity for the project. Overall, this project represents a positive step towards sustainable energy and environmental conservation in Odisha.
