Paradip Port in India is embarking on an ambitious expansion plan to transform into a fully mechanized port by 2030. The port aims to develop three new berths, mechanize four existing ones, and establish a dedicated berth for green hydrogen and ammonia. This strategic move is part of the port's goal to enhance operational efficiency and increase productivity. With an investment of over Rs 2500 crore, Paradip Port plans to surpass its current 289 MTPA handling capacity to over 400 MTPA by 2030, eventually targeting 500 MTPA by 2047. In a significant step towards sustainability, the port has signed agreements with investors for green hydrogen and ammonia plants, amounting to a total investment of Rs 50,800 crore. This initiative will not only boost the port's green energy capabilities but also position it as a key player in the region for handling green hydrogen and ammonia. As part of its capacity expansion project, Paradip Port is working on the 25 MTPA Western Dock project, which involves creating a new dock with modern infrastructure to accommodate various types of cargo. The port also plans to deepen its inner harbor to accommodate larger vessels with drafts of up to 18 meters. By introducing Cape vessels, Paradip Port aims to achieve economies of scale and reduce transportation costs per unit of cargo, with a projected handling capacity exceeding 300 MTPA by 2027. Notably, Paradip Port has demonstrated impressive performance by recording the highest cargo throughput among central government administered ports, handling 145.38 million tonnes in fiscal 2023-24, marking a 7.4% increase from the previous year. Additionally, the port led in coastal shipping traffic at 59.19 MT. The port's vision for growth and sustainability is evident through its strategic investments and development projects, positioning it as a frontrunner in the region's port industry.
