SECI Issues Tender for Tranche-II of Green Hydrogen Incentive in India
Key Ideas
  • SECI has released a tender for 450,000 MTPA of green hydrogen production under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
  • The tender aims to boost green hydrogen production, enhance cost-competitiveness, and promote large-scale utilization.
  • Producers can bid for either bucket-I (technology agnostic pathways) or bucket-II (biomass-based pathways) with specific capacity ranges.
  • Allocated capacity will remain constant for three years post Letter of Award issuance, allowing flexibility in project location and setup.
The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has announced the tender for tranche-II of green hydrogen incentive under the National Green Hydrogen Mission in Mumbai, India. The tender is for 450,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green hydrogen production, aiming to maximize production, improve cost-competitiveness, and encourage large-scale utilization. The Request for Selection document allows bidders to opt for either bucket-I or bucket-II. Bucket-I comprises technology-agnostic pathways, while bucket-II includes biomass-based pathways. The total capacity available is distributed as 410,000 MTPA for bucket-I and 40,000 MTPA for bucket-II. Bidders can range their capacity bids from 10,000 MTPA to 90,000 MTPA for bucket-I and from 500 MTPA to 4,000 MTPA for bucket-II. A bidder can be allocated up to 90,000 MTPA across both buckets. The allocated capacity remains fixed for three years post issuance of the Letters of Award. The projects can be established anywhere in India, chosen by the producer, with the flexibility to change project locations during execution. After receiving the Letter of Award, bidders can set up multiple projects within the allocated capacity. The green hydrogen production facilities have 36 months from the LoA issuance for full production capacity commissioning. SECI will provide direct incentives per kg of green hydrogen production annually for three years to the awarded facilities. This initiative aims to accelerate the green hydrogen transition in India, fostering sustainable energy practices.
