Sembcorp Industries, in collaboration with Temasek, has announced a partnership with the state of Odisha in India to establish a large-scale green hydrogen plant and explore the development of an industrial park. The plant, with a capacity of 720,000 metric tonnes, will be constructed by Sembcorp's subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, with the aim of contributing to the renewable energy sector in the region. This initiative is projected to generate more than 2,000 employment opportunities, emphasizing the positive economic impact. The agreement comes amidst India's heightened focus on renewable energy investments to fulfill its clean energy objectives and combat emissions, following a shortfall in the 2022 targets. As a significant greenhouse gas emitter globally, India is striving towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and targeting 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The involvement of major energy companies in supporting the government's green energy initiatives underlines the growing momentum towards sustainability and environmental responsibility in the country.
