The Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) has partnered with Siemens Energy to procure 100 MW of electrolyzer capacity for green hydrogen production at the site of the former Moorburg coal-fired power plant. The selected electrolyzer technology, based on proton exchange membrane (PEM), offers flexibility in production, making it ideal for dynamic renewable energy supply. Siemens Energy will deliver six units of its latest electrolyzer model, with construction set to commence next year and commercial operations expected to start in 2027. The stacks, crucial components of the electrolyzer, will be produced at Siemens Energy's Berlin Gigafactory. The HGHH consortium has also secured a 10-year maintenance contract with Siemens Energy.
