Tata Motors is embarking on a pilot project with hydrogen internal combustion engine-powered trucks in collaboration with IOCL. The initiative is set to commence in the March quarter on three specific routes, including Mumbai-Pune, Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar, and Mumbai-Ahmedabad, as part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The 18-month project aims to collect valuable data that will contribute to refining both the hydrogen truck product and the hydrogen infrastructure. Tata Motors recently introduced a hydrogen internal combustion engine-powered truck at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable technology. The Executive Director of Tata Motors, Girish Wagh, emphasized the company's readiness for both hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cell electric vehicles, highlighting the upcoming commercial launch of hydrogen fuel vehicles within 1-2 years. Wagh expressed optimism about government support, citing interventions like FAME incentives and PLIs. The company's strategic repositioning towards sustainability, safety, and technology underscores its commitment to a greener future in the commercial vehicles market. Wagh remains positive about the market outlook, anticipating growth in the fourth quarter and praising the government's initiatives to drive electrification and sustainability.
