Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka unveiled ambitious plans and incentives to boost the state's renewable energy sector in a stakeholders' meeting on the proposed Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy 2024. With major power-intensive projects like Future City, AI City, and Pharma City on the horizon, Telangana aims to enhance its overall power generation capacity with an additional 20,000 MW of green energy generation and storage capacity by 2030. This initiative is crucial to meet the anticipated rise in peak electricity demand over the coming years. To achieve this goal, the state plans to focus on standalone renewable energy projects and innovative solutions such as floating solar, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen, aiming to maintain grid stability and cater to base and peak loads while ensuring a diverse energy mix. The proposed policy includes measures like a single-window clearance mechanism, incentives for manufacturing RE components, subsidies for green hydrogen production facilities, and guaranteed procurement by Telangana discoms to encourage investments in the sector. Additionally, there are plans to increase transmission and distribution capacity, deploy smart grid technologies, and provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers. By promoting renewable energy and sustainable development, Telangana is set to make significant strides in building a greener and more resilient energy infrastructure.
