The Tuticorin International Container Terminal was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The terminal, developed with an investment of over ₹434 crores, has the capacity to handle 6 lakh TEUs annually, with a draft of 14.20 meters. Shri Sonowal also launched the Green Hydrogen Project, emphasizing its role in fulfilling PM Modi's vision for India to be a global hub of Green Hydrogen. The Union Minister highlighted the importance of the Tuticorin Port, which aims to handle 50 million tonnes of cargo in FY2024-25. Additionally, various infrastructural projects like a 400 kW Rooftop Solar Power Plant and initiatives supporting inclusive growth and employment were inaugurated. The Prime Minister commended the terminal's ability to reduce logistics costs, save foreign exchange, and promote gender diversity with its workforce. The Tuticorin Port's expansion aligns with India's broader maritime mission towards sustainable and forward-thinking development, focusing on green energy initiatives to combat climate change.
