India and the US are working together to drive energy innovation and accelerate clean energy transitions as part of the India and US Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP). The recent ministerial meeting in Washington, DC, led by US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighted the progress in various technical pillars under the SCEP. The focus areas include power and energy efficiency, renewable energy, responsible oil and gas, emerging fuels and technologies, and sustainable growth. Both nations emphasized the importance of advancing renewable energy deployment, promoting energy efficiency, and decarbonizing high-emitting sectors such as industry, buildings, and transport. They also welcomed the launch of the Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP) to develop roadmaps for hydrogen, long duration energy storage, offshore wind, and geothermal technologies. Collaboration on hydrogen safety, the International Conference on Green Hydrogen, large-scale grid integration of renewable energy, modernizing power distribution, supporting electrification of vehicles, and achieving net zero emissions in the Indian Railways sector were key highlights of the meeting. The ministers appreciated the partnership's efforts to address climate challenges and advance clean energy goals.
