Aramco and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide funding of up to US$100mn for research and development projects spanning the next 10 years. This collaboration aims to support a broad range of initiatives with a focus on achieving both environmental and commercial benefits. Areas of collaboration include energy transition, sustainability, materials transition, upstream technologies, and digital solutions, with a particular emphasis on delivering commercially viable outcomes. Key topics within the energy transition field comprise liquids-to-chemicals conversion, future refineries research, and the development of low-carbon aviation fuels. Sustainability-focused research will encompass hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, renewables, and energy storage solutions. Additionally, there are plans for projects centered around advanced carbon materials and geothermal energy, among other areas. Aramco's President and CEO, Amin H. Nasser, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the significance of innovation in various industries. KAUST's President, Tony Chan, emphasized the institution's commitment to impactful research that tackles real-world challenges and drives technological advancements. The collaborative efforts between Aramco and KAUST aim to leverage their combined expertise to create innovative solutions that contribute to a sustainable future.
