BEEAH's Revolutionary Waste-to-Hydrogen Plant in Sharjah
Key Ideas
  • BEEAH plans to establish the Middle East's first waste-to-hydrogen plant in Al Sajaa, Sharjah, in collaboration with international technology partners, Chinook Hydrogen and Air Water Inc.
  • The plant will produce 7 tons of green hydrogen daily from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) using innovative gasification and hydrogen refinement technologies, contributing to emissions-free energy production and hydrogen mobility.
  • Expected to be commissioned in Q2 of 2027, the plant will annually produce 2,560 tons of green hydrogen, diverting waste and preventing 30,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, in alignment with the UAE's National Hydrogen Strategy.
  • The project's readiness level has been independently verified, with plans to scale the plant for increased production capacity to 20 tons of green hydrogen per day, supporting the UAE's goal to become a global hydrogen production leader by 2031.
BEEAH, a prominent sustainability and digitalization organization in the UAE, unveiled ambitious plans to construct the Middle East's inaugural commercial-scale waste-to-hydrogen plant in Al Sajaa, Sharjah. In partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), Chinook Hydrogen, and Air Water Inc., the project aims to revolutionize green hydrogen production and utilization. Leveraging Chinook Hydrogen's RODECS gasification and pyrolysis solution, coupled with Air Water Inc.'s advanced hydrogen refinement technology, the plant will convert Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and other organic-based materials into fuel-cell grade green hydrogen. The initiative, aligned with the UAE's National Hydrogen Strategy, is set to commence operation in Q2 of 2027, generating 7 tons of green hydrogen daily and curbing landfill emissions by diverting waste. With an annual output capacity of 2,560 tons, the plant represents a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting energy diversification, and promoting hydrogen-fueled mobility. The plant's by-products, including biogenic carbon dioxide and nitrogen, offer additional value for alternative fuel production and industrial applications. Driven by a commitment to sustainability and innovation, BEEAH and its international partners are poised to elevate the UAE's status as a key player in the burgeoning hydrogen economy, reinforcing the country's vision of sustainable energy leadership.
